The 2024 Chevy Equinox Is Going Electric – Here’s What You Need to Know
Chevrolet takes another bite at the incredibly competitive EV crossover market with the electric Chevy Equinox. Although GM’s Bolt EUV is currently in the running, it does not make use of the company’s new Ultium battery.
Ultium batteries provide a higher energy density and use less cobalt. The batteries also provide a more flexible pack configuration. The larger, sportier Blazer EV is expected to debut a few months before the 2024 Equinox EV in the fall of 2023.
Engine and Performance
All trims of the electric Chevy Equinox will come with a standard front-wheel drive system, but an all-wheel drive is optional. The base models power a single motor with 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain is enough for your everyday needs.
All-wheel drive models will have a dual-motor configuration with an output of 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain is perfect for those who are looking for more oomph.
The electric Chevy Equinox will have two available battery packs. The entry-level 1LT trim will have a standard-range pack with a 250-mile range. Also available is a long-range pack with a 300-mile range. Only the long-range pack is compatible with the dual-motor configuration.
Most electric Chevy Equinox models feature an 11.5-kW charger, offering up to 34 miles per hour. The 3RS AWD model has a 19.2-kW onboard charger. The Equinox 3RS provides 51 miles of range per hour when plugged into a Level 2 station.
On the road, the electric Chevy Equinox can use power at up to 150kW. A DC fast-charging station with this charge rate increases the range by around 70 miles in 10 minutes.
Interior
Based on press pictures of the least expensive electric Chevy Equinox, the vehicle’s interior looks attractive and elegant. The front portion of the cabin resembles a less-glitzy version of the chrome-covered Blazer EV.
You get two digital displays and a clutter-free steering wheel. The Equinox also has stylish turbine-style air vents on the dash’s bookends. Moreover, it uses a tactile volume knob and air conditioning controls. Even though there seem to be a lot of hard plastics, the dashboard trim’s diamond elements and the contrast-colored seat stitching give the cabin a more upscale appearance than one might expect for a base model.
Naturally, upgrading to higher trims equips the inside with better materials. The 3LT has soft-touch door inserts, gorgeous blue-beige-brown upholstery, and leather upholstery. RS models are positioned as a sport-themed alternative that reinforces the motif with a blacked-out interior with red highlights.
Tech
The base 1LT comes with two 11-inch screens, a digital instrument panel in front of the driver, and a central touchscreen. A 17.7-inch touchscreen is standard on 3LT and 3RS trims and is optional for 2LT and 2RS trims. Other optional equipment includes a hands-free tailgate, a premium Bose audio system, heated outboard rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
