Chevrolet Introduces the 2023 Silverado ZR2 Bison
Chevrolet and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), a high-end aftermarket maker of off-road vehicles, introduce the first-ever special edition Silverado ZR2 Bison. This truck is for customers looking for vehicles with advanced off-road capabilities.
AEV has a reputation for making accessories that perform well in overland expedition settings. The 2019 Colorado ZR2 quickly became the most popular special edition package for the Colorado ZR2.
AEV and GM engineers and designers worked together to create the Silverado ZR2 Bison. This vehicle features special overlanding componentry.
Best Truck for Off-roading
AEV says that the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison is the best half-ton truck for outdoor activities. It has stamped steel bumpers and full underbody protection. The vehicle also has an off-road suspension tuned at the factory and front and back differential locks.
The special edition Silverado ZR2 Bison has better off-road ratings than the 2022 Silverado ZR2. It has a projected front approach angle of 32.5 degrees, higher than the ZR2’s 31.8 degrees approach angle. It also has an estimated departure angle of 23.4 degrees compared to the 23.3 degrees of the regular truck. Both vehicles have a similar 11.2-inch ground clearance.
Strong and Durable
The high-quality steel used in the bumpers and underbody protection of the AEV gives this vehicle a new level of off-road confidence. The front and rear bumpers comprise 3-millimeter-thick steel with AEV stamps, which are powder and e-coated.
The underbody skid plates use steel that has been press-hardened. Thus, the plates are very resistant to damage. Moreover, they are three and a half times stronger than a high-strength steel plate that has been cold-stamped.
Special Features
The following features of the Silverado ZR2 Bison add to the truck’s reputation for being a tough off-road vehicle.
- Front and rear bumpers are stamped steel with built-in step pads and heavy-duty recovery points. The front bumper is compatible with a winch accessory.
- Five distinctive hot-stamped boron steel skid plates that protect the fuel tank, transfer case, and rear differential
- Protection for steel rocker panels
- A three-piece, sturdy steel front bumper with built-in, dark-colored, vertical tow hooks
- Exclusive 18-inch AEV wheels in gloss black mounted with 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires
The Silverado ZR2 Bison has the following standard ZR2 features:
- 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
- 40-millimeter Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers
- 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels
- Specially tuned springs. They allow more front and rear suspension performance when combined with the Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers.
- Special off-road chassis and suspension calibrations
- Front and back e-lockers
Exterior Design
The Silverado ZR2 Bison has a unique body-color grille bar that offers a contrast to the black grille design. It also proudly displays the signature ZR2 badge on the front of the vehicle to the right of the iconic Chevy logo. The back of the truck features a bold black matte finish, allowing the Chevy insignia to stand out.
